The Complete Technical Dossier for Triple Insulated Wire: A Specification and Certification Checklist for Transformer Engineers

2026-08-30

This article compiles the complete technical dossier a transformer engineer needs to evaluate triple insulated wire — datasheets, a safety model-to-standard-path mapping table, approval documents, and the certification list — with every obtainable document and its contents in one place.

In an engineering culture of regulatory rigor, a supplier's first calling card is not the price but the complete technical dossier. The documents a transformer engineer needs before designing a triple insulated wire into a product can in fact be written down as a single checklist. This article goes through the technical dossier DAH JIN TECHNOLOGY can provide, item by item, so you can request everything at once and evaluate side by side.

1. Datasheet

The datasheet states each model's construction, conductor diameter range, thermal rating, and process characteristics. DAH JIN's main models:

  • TLW-B / TLW-BB — Construction:Triple insulation (PET/PET/PA);Diameter range:0.10–1.50 mm;Thermal class:Class 130(B)
  • TLW-F — Construction:Triple insulation;Diameter range:0.10–1.50 mm;Thermal class:Class 155(F)
  • TLW-B7S — Construction:Triple insulation, 7-strand concentric round stranding (litz);Diameter range:7 strands, single strand 0.10–0.30 mm;Thermal class:Class 130(B)
  • TLW-B2 — Construction:Double insulation;Diameter range:per the approval document;Thermal class:Class 130(B)
  • TLW-B1 — Construction:Single insulation;Diameter range:per the approval document;Thermal class:Class 120(E)

Common to TLW-B / TLW-BB / TLW-B7S / TLW-F: three extruded insulation layers, evaluated under VDE 40008834 per IEC 62368-1 Annex J as reinforced insulation (Reinforced / Extruded / 3 layers). TLW-B / TLW-BB / TLW-B7S / TLW-F can be soldered directly without first stripping the insulation (per product data); for the soldering conditions of TLW-B1 / TLW-B2, contact Sales. TLW-B2 / TLW-B1 are double-layer / single-layer types, per the approval document.

Three selection dimensions determine which specification sheet to request (for the full decision basis, see the triple insulated wire selection guide):

  • Thermal class (how hot): base it on the transformer's actual operating temperature rise, not the ambient temperature;Class B (130°C) or Class F (155°C, TLW-F).
  • Conductor size (how thick): determined jointly by winding current density and winding window space;for same-side or auxiliary windings that do not require reinforced insulation, the double-layer TLW-B2 or single-layer TLW-B1 can be paired in.
  • High-frequency losses (how high-frequency): when switching frequency rises and skin effect reduces the effective cross-section of thick solid wire, evaluate the stranded-conductor triple insulated wire TLW-B7S.

2. Safety Model × Standard Path Mapping Table

The one table engineers need most shows which model can follow which safety approval path. The wire's role is to enable the transformer to achieve the reinforced insulation required by the standards below (the wire itself does not hold end-product standards such as IEC 61010-1):

  • IEC 62368-1 Annex J — TLW-B ✅; TLW-BB ✅; TLW-B7S ✅; TLW-F ✅
  • IEC 61558-1 Annex K — TLW-B ✅; TLW-BB ✅; TLW-B7S ✗; TLW-F ✗
  • IEC 60601-1 (8.8.2 + Annex L) — TLW-B ✗; TLW-BB ✅; TLW-B7S ✅; TLW-F ✗
  • IEC 62368-1 Annex J (normative annex, Insulated winding wires for use without interleaved insulation): power supplies for ICT and audio/video equipment.
  • IEC 61558-1 Annex K (normative annex, Insulated winding wires): the transformer itself; TLW-F is not in scope.
  • IEC 60601-1: patient isolation in medical electrical equipment is assessed under Clause 8.8.2 and normative Annex L (Insulated winding wires for use without interleaved insulation); the applicable models are TLW-BB / TLW-B7S, with actual withstand voltage subject to end-product medical verification.

3. Approval Document

The approval document is the formal specification document between manufacturer and customer, stating conductor diameters, tolerances, electrical characteristics, and certification scope; the datasheets on this website are excerpts from the approval document annex. We recommend requesting the approval document before design freeze to obtain the complete tolerances and electrical parameters as the design basis. For diameters outside the approval document annex, please contact sales to confirm approval status.

4. Certification and Test Document List

  • UL certification: file number E236542 (category OBJT2);UL E318181, insulation system DJ-130, category "System Components, Electrical Insulation - Component" (OBJS2), Class 130(B);customers adopting the DJ-130 insulation system require an Authorization Letter issued by DAH JIN.
  • VDE certification: certificate number 40008834 (models TLW-B / TLW-BB / TLW-B7S / TLW-F).
  • ISO 14001 certification: ISO 14001 environmental management system.
  • SGS hazardous substance test reports: RoHS (IEC 62321) and REACH SVHC reports are provided by model, with the models covered as stated in the reports. These are test reports, different in nature from UL / VDE certification.
  • Product approval document: as above.

All UL certifications can be verified free of charge in the official database (enter E236542 / E318181 in UL Product iQ).

Requesting the Technical Dossier

Submit the part number or target specification, conductor size, estimated annual volume and application conditions (working voltage / frequency / temperature rise / applicable safety path) through the online RFQ form on this website to receive the specification sheet and the approval document. For MOQ and lead time, see the FAQ on working with DAH JIN.Recommended evaluation sequence: request the technical dossier first to check specifications and certifications, then proceed to sample validation.
